go here:

http://www.ab.com/plclogic/micrologix/

and follow the link for “Get Software” - the RSLogix500 Starter Software for 10-point MicroLogix 1000 Controllers is the only “free” RSLogix software that I know of - it’s a “limited feature” package but it might get you where you want to go - or at least help you get started - I doubt that there will be any “complex instruction set” features in this free version - the book which contains ALL of the instructions is:

SLC-500 Instruction Set Reference Manual at:
http://www.ab.com/manuals/cp/1747-rm001c-en-p.pdf

this might help too - good luck -

Come on! SLC is manufactured by Rockwell, that should be enough for anyone that could get a doubt similar to the yours one. All worldwide manufacturer leader companies such as Rockwell produces products with excellent features, you can be sure you are choosing right.
(Note: I do not work for Rockwell, and I am not a vendor either).

Anyway, at http://www.ab.com you can find the Demo of the RSLogix trainer software. It can approach a little to the RSLogix software, in case you do not know it at all. Also there, you can find all the manuals and related technical books that you can need to get a whole averview (as deeply as you want) about the SLC products family.

By the way, I am starting a new page, and there I am including some project you can check (some of them are SLC based). Go to >

If you contact Rockwell Automation they should give you a demo CD, i've had one before, they won't charge you or anything as well

Keep in mind the RSLogix 500 demo only functions with the MicroLogix 1000 with 10 points.
A-B catalog # 1761-L10BXB
$99US approx.

But you can certainly write offline ladder logic and get familiar with the interface. Save. Print.

Does the RSLogix 500 demo only function with the 10 point plc, or will it function with the 16 & 32 point PLC's but only allow the use of 10 points?

I purchased an 1761-L32BWA off of ebay for educational purposes. Now I find out how difficult it is to obtain software to learn with!

Yes, the free demo only supports full function with the US$99 1761-L10BXB MicroLogix1000 controller. You can load a program created with the free demo into your 1761-L32BWA or any other ML1000 controller, but you would need a fully licensed RSLogix500 Starter or more to do that.

Hope this helps!
