Liquid Volume of Horizontal Tank with Dished Ends

I have found formulas for calculating the volume of a liquid level in a horizontal tank with flat ends. I need help locating a formula for dealing with the volume of the domed or "Dished" ends that some tanks have. Any ideas where to look?

You might try going to a library and looking at a "Perry's Chemical Engineering Handbook", any edition. Probably will be a chart or table. There might also be something in "Mark's Handbook" which is for mechanical engineers. This info is commonly used also for tank trucks and rail cars so I am sure there is something out there. Often, this is referred to as an "outage" table which may show how much empty volume exists at the top of the tank, so you will know how much you can pump in.

I did a sarch and had over 65K hits and looked at 20 sites that had really good information and formulas. I would try the internet and seach on tank volume calculations. In fact I downloaded several tank V calculators just to try them out, they work fairly well, you should try it out.

We are from Thermal Power Plant. I am the Head of Department for quality control & Environment. we calculated our Horizontal Tank volume-Tori spherical Head, As per our knowledge it is giving spurious reading. Tank Dia is 2400 mm,LOS is 3000 mm, Torispherical head length from center are 472 mm. Internal lining material is natural rubber with thickness 4.3 mm (three layers). This storage tanks are for storing HCl Acid (Sp. gr.-1.17) and Caustic Lye (Sp.Gr. 1.47). If u have any Xls based formula for calculating the volume in different depth then please Share / forward us.

Thanks for your effort to making a informative & helpful web site.We also developed in excel base calculation but we don't know the authenticity of the formula. If you are interested then I will send you the file.

Waiting for your helpful reply.

dish head formula
vol=pi*R*R*H
Vol(zone)=1/6*pi*b*(3a2+b2)

H height 10
D Dia 4
R rad 2
a 2
b 2
3.14 pi 3.14

vol(z) 16.74666667

vol 125.6

Total volume 159.0933333</pre>

It would be helpful if we knew what type of level transmitter you are using.

Some transmitters have the formulae for different styles of tank, all you have to do is enter the different dimensions
