Bailey DCS Systems

I have a customer who has an outdated Bailey DCS system. He claims he cannot purchase his components through Bailey/ABB anymore. He would like to purchase a spare parts base and work with a repair/remanufacture house for his components. Anybody out there who does this work?

Which parts are they having problems getting?

Sources I’ve used and will use again are:

PSI Repair Services, (734-853-5000), for board repairs
Process & Machinery Controls, (770-271-9932), for purchase of used/repaired parts

eBay for used parts (50 I/O cards and 5 controllers this year, 95% were good.)

I’ve also used KEPCO, (718-461-7000), type HSF N+1 hot pluggable power supply systems to replace Net90 power supply systems @ about $5,000 per PCU cabinet.

The following also offer repair and/or sales service, but I haven’t gotten around to trying them yet.

Integral Control system Services 330-923-2116
Coast Controls and Automation 360-289-2793
June Company 866-585-3872
Classic Automation 585-872-7344

I know of two who are both reputable and worked for Bailey for many years. I myself was part of the development and first build team of Bailey Network 90 and Infi 90.

For repair:
UAD United Automation Diagnostics
1325 Lumber Street
Crete IL 60417
(706)367-1120

Referbished & New:
ODX Inc
2351 Honeysuckle Lane
Smyrna GA 30080
770-433-9733

To whom it may concern:

To say that equipment is & parts are unavailable from ABB is true but to say thay are not available at all is NOT true. ABB did to Bailey exactly what they did to Taylor Instruments. Parts are available.

While it is true that there are 3rd party resources for Bailey parts repair and replacement, it's certainly NOT true that ABB does not do this; ABB does Bailey module repair and replacement for many customers, and, alternatively, the vast majority of older modules and power system parts have contemporary, functional replacements that require little or no reconfiguration of the existing system.

PCS does Bailey repairs and offers a brand new non-stop power system with dual AC inputs. The power system replaces all three types of power systems in Net90 and Infi90. It fits in the space of one MMU, so you don't have to take the cabinets apart for new power wiring.

Unless this system is very old and still has the -31vdc on the back plane, your client should be able to upgrade to newer controllers such as MFP or BRC. If the -31vdc is still present the system is old indeed and would be very difficult to upgrade. Most controller configurations would be compatable with the newer controllers, however the EWS software would need to be updated to support the newer firmware.

Have you thought about updating your system? What kind of modules does your DCS use?

If you have old legacy modules (COM, LMM, MFC etc.) we might be able to assist you in designing an updated platform (Including obtaining new or refurbished modules, a complete set of CAD drawings as well as update your EWS Software). More can be viewed at http://members.rogers.com/carsys

Actually, the -30V is only needed with those old controllers if you are going to make configuration changes. That voltage level is used to rewrite the EPROM. Many customers have a small system setup to do offline configuration changes instead of doing it on the production system. It's a heck-of-a-lot more secure doing controller changes off line. So, you don't have to worry about the -30V when upgrading old controllers or even upgrading to a new after market power supply system.
