Hello,

I'm currently a Sr at Drexel University and working on my Sr Design project. My portion has to do with automation, and I am searching for a controller that will allow for servo control, analog inputs (reed switches/potentiometers) and analog and digital outputs, as well as some sort of communications channel, IE RS232, WIFI, or any other sort of system that can be made to function remotely. I've used IFI's controller in the past but have had problems with the unit overheating. I started looking into Lynxmotion's products and was interested in maybe National Instruments products but am open to any solution that many of you have used in the past. Please let me know what you have used before and possibly what known issues there are.

Mike,
You might also check out Opto22.com
They have a modular PLC system that uses ethernet.
The programming language is flowchart, the software is free, and you get good assistance if you call them. They will even recommend a compeditor if they think it's a better fit.
Good luck with your project

Thanks guys,

I've decided upon the NI Compact RIO setup. My only problem is I have no experience in Labview so there is a huge learning curve for this. But as we had already had the hardware and software in the lab, it appeared to be the best option for now. Hopefully I will be saying the same thing in June when I have to present a completed project.
