monitoring water level

I just wanna ask, what if i'm going to monitor a water level in an open space so it's prone to any weather might have,so what will i'm going to use to have an accurate result 'coz at certain level of water I have another task to do but then water level monotoring would stull continue..
I need your opinion.

Well, all things considered, a submersible pressure transducer is your best option, and it should have some damping because "weather" in an open space generally implies wave action or surface turbulence on the top of the liquid. Ultrasonics and radar will have issues with wind, if there is any, and floats are problematic due to "weather" and the potential for debris.

We have used ultrasonic in a PVC pipe acting as a stilling well. Has worked great for many years, helps eliminate proplems with hardware in the water.

Yep, that works. Costs more, and uses more power too, but has the advantage of non-contact measurement.
