Looking for cable by the foot

Many time I need just 3 to 10 feet of multi-conductor cable. A whole roll is outside my budget so I'm wondering if someone sells cable by the foot.

Thanks,
Jerry

There is a whole world of items which can be called multiconductor cable.

Shielded or not? If shielded, what type (foil?, braided?, both?), what is the coverage factor, and does it have a drain wire? Unpaired or paired? How many conductors? What wire size? What insulation parameters [plenum-rated? what voltage rating? is capacitance a performance factor? does it have to hold up to solvents, and, if so, which ones(s)]? Flat or round? Does it need to hold up in a high flexture application? I'm missing a couple of queries that should be addressed, but you get the point.

Depending on what type of multiple conductor cable you are referring to (i.e. - if its a fairly common type) you might be able to strike up a relationship with a local electrical enclosure fab shop, and buy it from them.

Places that sell surplus, and overstock are worth a look for getting shorter lengths. Here is a sampling... there are hundreds more.

We use Anixter/Pacer. I'm not sure if they go down to 3 or 10 feet, but I've ordered 25' rolls that they re-reeled for me from their 100' and 500' spools. It wouldn't hurt to try.

Hi,

You're obviously in the states, (here in the UK, the inventor of the foot, we went metric 37 years ago. :) )

Here, it is usual for cable suppliers to supply cut lengths. I can get reels next day, and usually two days for cut lengths. There is obviously a premium for this service, but at current copper prices, It doesn't make sense to keep four reels of 25mm tri rate sitting on the shelf.

Parmley Graham, http://www.parmleygraham.co.uk (profibus and other fieldbus)

Scattergoods, http://www.scatts.co.uk (some multicore and larger tri-rate)

Eland cables, http://www.eland.co.uk/ (mainly multicore)

and of course City Electrical http://www.cef.co.uk (ask nicely, and they'll cut down fluorescent tubes for you!!)

Yeah, I know I was a little vague on the cable type. Depends on what project we have going on at the time. Usually we just need cable for a control application, never really need shielded. Thanks for the links.

You're welcome,

They always had any cable that I needed too. Their selection is amazing. I used to design custom motor drive systems and needed a variety of small multi-conductor chemical resistant cables. We usually did not have room for a shielded cable. Their Chainflex cable filled the bill.
