I have a dilemma. We have an old piece of plant that is running on an S5 system using the 155 racks and processors.
I have 2 processors on this rack 1 is a 947 and the other is a 946. The 947 is used only for the PID loops and calculations and the 946 is being used to control the rest of the plant. Because of downtime constraints we have decided to purchase spares for the short time rather than upgrading. However an external company who was quoting for the upgrade has basically told us that because of differing firmware versions, our spare CPUs may not be any good or viable as spares.
Could someone confirm this is the case or not, and if so, how can I get around the problem? Obviously S5 CPUs are getting harder to get hold of.
Kind Regards,
Dave Allen
