Step 7 file extension

Hi,

I have a new machine on the line with the S7 PLC. From the builders of the machine I only received a backup with the .dat extension. How do I open it with Step 7? Is it supposed to be opened with a different program?

One of my bêtes noires - why do customers accept machines with anything less than full documentation? I would never dream of supplying a machine without full drawings, manuals and program listing, including the files needed to regenerate the system. These data are required by law (in the form of the technical construction file) if the machine is CE marked, so I can't see a reason not to supply it for the end user. If the machine is new, and you still have retained payment, ensure that the balance of the payment and sign off is dependent on full documentation, including certificates of conformance.
