SCADA Allen Bradley

Hello,

I would like to make a SCADA system in my factory. We have RSView software and RSLogix for Allen Bradley PLCs. All PLCs are networked via ethernet. What else do I need to be able to create a SCADA system?
Please help, thank you!

Hi,

You don't mention what RSView you have, or what license. RSLogix is for programming the Rockwell (Allen Bradley) PLCs.

There are several flavours of RSView. If you have RSView Studio for ME then this is used for Panelview Plus HMIs and RSViewME clients. This can be classed as SCADA, but it does have limitations. RSView SE is their higher end SCADA package and can be distributed or standalone systems. Then there is RSView32, which is an older SCADA/HMI package, but still available.

Chances are you already have everything you need. Just need someone to
program.

Hi,

RSView32 comes with RSLinx Classic, Pro from memory. RSView ME and SE come with RSLinx Enterprise, if you need RSLinx Classic then this is extra. RSLogix comes with generally comes with a lite version, not suitable for SCADA.

Hi,

When looking at versions of RSLinx you may want to consider RSLinx Gateway. This will allow you the ability to connect third party systems to take data from the PLC via OPC to the likes of a data historian or reporting application for site wide use of data.

IF you have RSView SE and Contrologix PLC's you have the core of a scada system. You need an systems integrator to determine how to put it all together and program it to provide the solution you are looking for.

Recommend you upgrade your RS View 32 to the latest FactoryTalk View SE (Site Edition). RSView 32 is now legacy, don't think it is Sliver Service yet.

Are you sure you want a SCADA? FactoryTalk View ME (Machine Edition) or HMI is quiet capable just no serious logging or historian.

Just upgraded a RSView32 app. to SE, few issues but nothing to heavy.
 
I would suggest some research prior to jumping into RSView SE for your project. We have implemented several RSView SE projects and there are several known issues with FactoryTalk and RSView SE. Just search it on the internet and you will find a lot of unfavorable information for RSView SE.

The RSView32 product is not leagacy, nor will it be according the Rockwell's website. We have just completed 3 projects with RSView32 Version 7.4 based on our client's request. The RSView32 product is bulletproof and simple to work with. The only possible downfall is RSView32 is not a client/server architecture out of the box. Rockwell sells an add-on RAD for that.

Most of our staff are ex-Rockwell employees, so we have lived with the RSView SE software issues for awhile. I would recommend RSView32 anyday due to it's ease of use.
 
Just to echo some of the sentiments in the message from CSI below: I use RSView32 for all my work, interfacing with true SCADA systems. RSView SE is not a SCADA system: There still is no way of dealing with multiple time zones (from distributed signal sources), the alarm handling is pretty basic, and forcing of field signals must be hand built for each instance.

RA has been pretty unresponsive to input that could make SE better.
For a local operator interface RSView32 is hard to beatm

Can only tell you what RA told me. They (the UK) wouldn't even give us a part number for RSView32, said for a ten year plus lifecycle SE should be used.
