Hi there! Pls if anyone can help me! I am building a full motion flight simulator and I have got hold of a few instruments that i would like to interface and i would like to use steppers and/or servos through com ports or parallel ports. I would also like to know how to communicate with these from flight sim using FSUIPC(which allows dos based programs to comunicate with FS) and what the best program would be to write the software! A schematic would also be cool if anyone can help me!
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Pierre

If you are on the low budget end and want to do it yourself, try getting the book called "Controlling the World with Your PC" by Paul Bergsman. He has schematics and code. You might want to check with Amazon.com and see if it is still available new or used. It had ways to hook up to the pc using the parallel and serial ports.
Otherwise, try Servo manufacturers.

Hi. If you are the person i am thinking of the world is very small.

Otherwise there are too many ppl called pierre building flightsims and interfacing steppers with controls.

I was asked the same question by a friend called Jose.

I would prsonally do it with a PIC. These micros are very cheep and easy program. The programming software is also very easy to understand and best of all its FREE.

Let me know how small the world is.

Hi Pierre,

Disclosure: I work for this company

My company, MakingThings, makes modules for controlling both stepper motors and servos (among others). The off-the-shelf interface is via USB, but we can do a semi-custom adaptation to most anything.

Our website is at www.makingthings.com. In particular, the stepper motor controller is at:

http://www.makingthings.com/cgi-loc...znb0912ff5c365c+-p+-c+scstore.cfg+MOD-STP-001

The servo controller, which controls 8 hobby servo motors, is at:

http://www.makingthings.com/cgi-loc...znb0912ff5c365c+-p+-c+scstore.cfg+MOD-SRV-001

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me off-list (or on, if you think it might be of general interest):

Hello :)

My company sells a number of very user friendly USB products that might be helpful to you. You can control our steper motor controller, servo motor controller, and dc motor controller from VB, C++, and other languages. Our object library is so simple to use you can be controlling your motors in minutes flat. The DC and stepper motor controller is due out by the end of july 2004.

Come take a look!
