Now I am using medium voltage soft starter from Benshaw (MV 7200V 168A (including MVRSM18-7.2KV-168A). I am looking for any alternative products. Any one know anything about it? Please give me some advices. I appreciate it.

That one is brand labeled by most of the other major motor control manufacturers as well, i.e. GE, Siemens, ABB, Schneider, Toshiba, etc.

Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) make a great MV soft starter product too.

I just found out the OEM has gone out of the business of soft starters...

 

But this unit is made by Solcon.

Why are you looking for an alternative? Benshaw makes a good product.

One thing to watch for with other manufacturers is availability and ease of replacement. Often, with medium voltage equipment, the manufacturer makes it in such a way that it becomes almost impossible to replace the unit at a later date without buying from them again. I recently had a case where a customer had an older SquareD meduim voltage softstart fail. There were no longer any parts available. SquareD said they needed to retrofit a new SquareD unit into the old cabinet (there were 6 units in side by side arrangement. SquareD had to "engineer" some of the parts in order to retrofit the newer softstart. It took 6 weeks and cost $150,000.

The customer wanted to put in another unit (Benshaw) that was readily available but found out it was impossible due to the design of the SquareD system. Expensive repair and EXPENSIVE downtime!
