I've been asked to add a webcamera video to a FactoryLink 6.6 screen. I haven't a clue about using the PowerVB to add it to the tag. Anyone using a camera on their app?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Best regards, J

Hi,
Sorry but I have to tell you that FL 6.x does not support ActiveX controls. Although you use PowerVB, Application Editor is not an ActiveX container, so you will never see video from your webcamera (most of them use ActiveX controls to show video in Windows app).

You must use FL 7.x to get it.

Gustavo,
I'll be upgrading to FL 7.0 at our next shutdown. I have the 6.6 system running in our lab and was hoping to have it ready to go, before I went to FL7.

Any help is appreciated.
Best regards, John

John,

As I told you, there no way to do it using FL 6.x (I have put video from webcam in FL 7.x and in this case I can help you more). If you are going to upgrade FL, go directly to FL 7.5 version, it has more features and improvements than FL 7.0.

I hope it helps.

Hi There,

Hate to tell you but our product treats video images just like any other data for recording, displaying, recording with the historian and trending after the fact! No ActiveX required!

Gustavo,

I'm now at FL 7.0 with no service packs installed. I'm needing to do the webcam without making a ClientBuilder app. We run our system with WebClient emulating the screen.

Your (and anybody else's) help is greatly appreciated!

Best regards,
John

John,

You must create a mimic using Client Builder in order to put your webcam's ActiveX (if this has one of course!) and see video. Also you could put any other ActiveX able to connect to your webcam if this supports this feature (e.g Window Media Player).

WebClient uses displays created by Application Editor (the old Graphics Editor) and as I told you before, this editor is not an ActiveX container.

As I imagine that you don't want to create your old displays again to see them in Client Builder (and use the new tools/features), you could use the FL's Wizard to migrate your old displays to Client Builder (ECSConvert.exe).

Also, you could create a new mimic in Client Builder, insert USDATA WebClient ActiveX (to see your legacy displays) along with your webcam's ActiveX, maybe it isn't the most elegant solution but will depend on your needs.

Best regards.
