DCS commissioning

A

Abhijit Goswami, Haldia

How do you do the commissioning of DCS system depends on system vendor, detail engineering contractor and ofcourse client's requirement. When you say "commissioning", I understand that system design, engineering and installation is already over and you are only concerned about DCS commissioning as a prerequisite for plant commissioning.

Governing documents are,
1. Vendor manual. Refer specific sections.
2. Agreed Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedure containing all test requirements.
3. Engineering specifications of rack/control room like, ground, temperature, relative humidity etc.

Most important test parts in SAT are,
a. Ensure correct Ground/earth.
b. Third party interfaces to DCS, specially if it is through serial interface.
c. Business level interfaces to ERP, if at all.
c. Ensure that all punch points in FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) are resolved.

Regards.

Somehow this reminds me of the medieval cookbook recipe for "wolf soup."

"First, catche ye woolfe."

There are countless ways to commission a DCS. The people who know how to do it best are the vendor of the DCS themselves, and the system integrator or A&E firm who designed and installed it.

Are you talking about a FAT? A SAT? A hot cutover?

Please talk to your vendor or integrator or engineering company about how to do this.
