Pressure sensor for punching bag

Guys... I need help. Do you know what pressure sensor is good for a punching bag project? I am trying to make punching bag that can see the power of the hitter when they hit it.

Thanks guys...

Try looking at geophones or seismic sensors. They measure low frequency pressure waves and could be buried in the bag.

I would expect to use either a piezo based pressure sensor, or an accelerometer. Note that either one will require some additional support circuitry to filter, etc. the signal. I would look at the piezo first.

I'm not quite sure how you would use a pressure sensor in an application like this.

I would be more inclined to install an accelerometer (somewhere near the center of mass to reduce error of measurement) and calculate force from F=mA.

Depending upon your budget and other restrictions, there are many accelerometers that could meet your application.

Pressure = force/area.

A pressure measurement is always a differential measurement: Applied pressure vs some other pressure (absolute zero, atmosphere, another pressure) as a reference. Does pressure sound suitable for measuring the force applied to a punching bag?

Did you ever find out how to measure the pressure of a punch? Because I'm doing a project to see if you hit harder with a straight, a hook, or an uppercut. Please help me.

I would think an air bladder bag and a pneumatic pressure transducer would give a reasonable indication. You would need something with a fast a/d or peak detector electronics to catch the peak values.
