Frame V GE Gas turbine problems

Dear sirs,

Answer my queries.

1) In our plant since feb'07 we have high lube oil temp (68-72 degc). We have cleaned the cooler bundles twice during this period. Replaced the faulty cooler changeover valve with a new one. Still high lube temp has not been abated.
CT inlet & outlet temp. is normal. Water quality is so-so but other units are not getting affected by this.

* Additionally, is it possible to locate the oil coolers outside the MOT and arrange like steam turbines complete with regular isolation valves both on the oil and water side? If required, we will do it ourselves. You just tell us how to bring out the oil lines from inside the tank where to reconnect it d/s of Oil Cooler.

Give the suggestion for what to do next for reducing the oil temp.

2) We have another finding. We are getting best Co-gen efficiency at 16.5-17 MW load with IGVTMPCTRL on. HRSG gas firing is about 1600 kg/hr. At higher loads, IGV opens up and efficiency starts dropping. At higher load GT heat rate is improving at the same time overall cogen efficiency is falling with higher stack temp. How to obtain the max cogen efficiency at 18.5-19.5 MW region with gas firing rate remaining the same? Any manipulation/adjustment possible in IGVTMPCTRL?

We have this problem on our alstom F5 unit.

The water of cooling system doesn't get cool in radiators and we've had to use another shell and tube heat exchanger to cool down this water.

Have you found the solution of your problem ?

Hello Mos

If the discharge pressure on the circulating water pump is below around 50 psi then there is a strong likelihood that the wear-rings in the pump are worn out.

The condition of these rings can have a great impact on how well the lube oil heat exchanger works.
