We are going to install 415 volt, 400 hp motor for vacccum pump application. Due to high starting current we have planeed for VFD to reduce to starting current. Is there special specification required to purchase the motor which going to be driven by the VFD (variable frequency drive)?

Yes, typicaly motors for VFD applications are designed / fabricated with special insulation on their windings. Refer to motor manufacturer's web sites, for greater details.

Try GE, US Motors, BALDOR, etc.

Hi,
Make sure you specifiy that the motor will be controlled using a VFD although this is standard now for many manufacturers. Consider a Soft Start if you don't need to vary the speed once started, they are cheaper and smaller.
