What are the advantages and disadvantages between GSM/MODBUS over PROFIBUS, and how we can establish connection between Mark-VI Cimplicity HMI configured with GSM (GE Standard Messaging Format) or MODBUS and PROFIBUS based system?

The primary disadvantage of GSM is that it requires the HMI to be up and healthy for your communication link to work. GE's HMIs are typically prone to freeze, so your communication will be troublesome.

However, I have used the Kepware EGD opc server to communicate directly to a MK-6, and it worked out-of-the box in listen only (as a consumer). I used it as a historian data collector and have not attempted to use it to write to MK-6 points, although I'm pretty certian it would work.
