Mk 6 Alarms List
HMI topic

I have an application that threw up an alarm that we are not too sure about. It was;
Drop # 0000 Alarm XMIT Suspended CPU switched.

Anyone have any idea exactly what has caused this? Did the 5v power supply drop out briefly?

Odd bit to note is that it did NOT trip the GT!

Anyone.....?

Could this mean that the Designated Processor has switched from <R> to <S> for some reason? What other alarms (Process- and Diagnostic) were also annunciated at the same time?

What is the type of controller on your panel? If it is UCVF, it is possible that due to overheating, the processor switched to "Throttle Mode". In this mode it runs at 50% of the normal clock speed of 850 MHz.

The mk6 is a SIMPLEX not a TMR, it only has 1 cpu. There were other alarms which could not possibly have been true, for example VBV A & VBV B resolver feedback failure-Step to Idle... but the machine did not trip. I believe these were just 'ghost' alarms for want of a better word... the HMI flagged these but they were not real!

Two itsy, bitsy, tiny, little, small details: SIMPLEX control panel and aero-derivative application. Is this a "Millenium" package?

My bad; I don't go to the control.com webpage much any more (it either takes too long to load, or it doesn't load at all, or it just puts up the blue backgrounds). I subscribe to control.com's Automation List, which just sends the postings to my email address, and reply via email; sorry for not seeing the subtitle. I didn't see the "sub-title" with reference to the Mark VI being a SIMPLEX panel and controlling an LM6000 SAC.

My guess would be that something in the configuration/set-up of the Toolbox file isn't quite right to "permit" such an alarm in a SIMPLEX configuration.

AND/OR

I don't know much about LM applications but if it's one of those Millenium packages, there are all sorts of possibilities for communication problems with those--I'm told. Sounds like some bits went to the wrong bucket somehow.

Had there been any re-boots or downloads just prior to this incident--of any processor(s) or HMIs? What HMI application is running on the HMIs? Are there more than one HMI? Did they are report the same alarms?

Hi.

The CPU/controller card is a UCVE with platform IS215 UCVE architecture and 4.09 MB of memory.
The Bus Master Controller is a VCMI. The HMI runs CIMPLICITY as normal. Not sure what you mean MILLENNIUM, that is usually Woodward isn't it? The HMI operating system is WIN2K and its useful in recognizing any USB port hardware we plug in.

Someone at site has mentioned that the HMI and Mk6 are left on-line (with the EQUALITY box open) for extended periods of time, to my knowledge this does commit a large portion of the comms memory to maintain the on-line data transfer which sounds a likely cause.

Regards,
FF

Please provide info. on the following:

1. UDH port baud (10MB / 100MB - Link Status LED will be green for 100MB)
2. System Memory
3. Frame Period
4. Controller Load Profiler - Enabled or NOT
5. NTP mode - Broadcast or Unicast
6. Extended Alarm Queue Size - Enabled or Disabled
7. Hold List Scanner - Enabled or Disabled
8. Period of EGD Exchanges

Sorry but I am not able to provide this information due to not being there on the platform.

We believe that there is considerable air-borne pollution where this HMI ?Mk6 is located and that over a period of time the motherboard has become heavily covered in a black carbon based dust / soot and that this may effect the pin-out on various IC's and processor legs with a semi-conductive path. Im sure you can guess the rest!!

Incidentally, what happens when an INTEL processor overheats? Are there internal setpoints to govern a) the cooling fan operation and b) the shutdown or 50% speed step to avoid terminal processor failure?

Radhakrishnan,

We are experiencing this alarm at one of our sites, but it is from both EX2100s. They have ACLA cards, DSPX firmware revision is 3.07.00C. Last fall, the cables were replaced per PSB TB25026 and plans were to upgrade to ACLEs but the wrong cards were shipped.

The XMIT SUSPENDED, CPU SWITCHED alarm is often followed by ACLA - DSPX communication faults and eventually EGD communication loss.

Anyone have any ideas? Should the ACLE and associated firmware upgrade fix this?
