We're doing a production next year with an 18' turntable. I've got most of the turntable designed, including a spec'ed 2HP motor from the design.
The specs say either one or three phase, but as you can expect, getting power enough for a single phase means I'm up around 28 amps (not ideal).
Anyways... on to the main part:
I need a way of controlling it. I'd be willing to go as far as to put an encoder on it, but I can handle that, I think. The harder part (for me) is to find a way of making a low-voltage OR DMX (digital-multiplex 512) type control for it.
It needs speed control as well as directional control.
At best, I would like it to understand its position, and that I can tell it where to go next, and how fast to get there.
Are there any commercial products that are ready to go that can do this? If not, does anyone have the know-how to put something together that can do this?
Thanks!
