FactoryTalk
Human-Machine Interface and SCADA. topic

I changed my computer name, and now FactoryTalk is asking me for a user name and password every time I start RSView.

Does it also do this for RSLogix or RSLinx or others.

Factorytalk security can be set up to allow users based on computer and user name. There are also 2 types of FT security, network and local. So the first thing you must do is find out which FT directory you are tied to. There is a utility in the start menu for switching directories. Use it to see if you are connected local (most common) or network.

Network would be for things like Assetcentre or RSView SE set up in a distributed mode (possible).

There also is a utility called FT Security where you set up what users can do from what computer. My assumption thinking about it is that you are set up network (see your admin or person who set up) because the local copy cannot provide security by computer.

This security allows for example User A from computer A to edit PLC program, but user B from computer A cannot etc.

My guess is you were set up with that computer name and user account to do stuff in RSView (which version). Or FT got set up wrong, or what else was done when you changed Computer names..................
