Wonderware Window Maker will not open

I recently received a new laptop from my company last week. It was purched from dell this month. I installed Wonderware Intouch 9.5 and the installation went smoothly. After installing wonderware I opened application manager, searched for the desired application, and attempted to launch window maker.

After this, application manager closed automatically (as usual) but the familiar intouch splash followed by window maker launching did not occur. However wm.exe did show up as a process in task manager. I killed the instance and tried again with a new application to the same result. Although I am able to do a DB dump and load from application manager.

I then uninstalled Intouch 9.5 TOTALLY and installed intouch 8.0 with SP2 and all the latest patches. SAME RESULT! -.-

My boss tested this with his laptop (bought in the same batch from dell as mine and totally identical) and got the same results. Window Maker will NOT launch. Our company has purchased a LOT of computers and laptops from Dell and been able to install Intouch with no problems.

Has anyone else ran into this with new Dells or have any idea why this is happening?

Computer Specs:
Latitude D530
XP Pro SP2
2.2 Ghz Core Duo
2 GB ram

What other HMI software do you have on the laptop? Years back we discovered an issue with running RSView32 and Wonderware on the same computer. It was only our Toshiba laptops that had the problem, not our IBMs or Dells. Some software just doesn't play well together. Don't know if this is your issue but I figured I'd bring it up just in case.

At the time, no other HMI or PLC programs were installed. It was a fresh computer from dell which is what is confusing me. I thought it might be a resolution issue so I tried tinkering with the screen resolutions but that didn't help either.

What was even stranger was that I could open system management console but there were no errors in the log before or after opening Window Maker.

Hi Guys,
I am also facing the same problem.
In my office i am trying to install the Wonderware software on DELL made Desktop & Laptop which already having either RS view or RS logix 5000. But in case of other DEll PC's which haven't any Rockwell Software are not creating problem mean wonderare intouch is working well on those PC's. If u can provide idea for how to come out of this then it will be great.

I got a resolution to the problem. The new Dells came with a software called Embassy Trust Suite installed on them. This is apparently some type of data/fraud protection software from wave.com. Well this software interferes with Wonderware when it tries to start. Removing this software fixed everything right up. I had 9.5 loaded, removed Embassy, and (after a restart) was able to load and create new applications in Window Maker with NO problems at all.

Thanks Dell for installing more software that I didn't want that makes my life MORE convenient!

I had the same problem. My fix was to disable McAfee antivirus. The MCShield.exe service was preventing WM from opening. I'd check your antivirus software.

Our control system is based on DELL Desktops. It is working just fine with both Rockwell RS-Logix5000 and WonderWare Intouch installed.

We did not encounter any problems until our system was hunted by a virus from external storage media.

We installed Norton Antivirus and we still have no problems with that.
