Frame-6 MKV GT constants

Hello! Mr. CSA,

If I am going to incorporate inlet air chilling system to my Frame-6, MKV GT, will it require me to change any control constants in MKV software? I heard about it, will you please guide me?

Thanks.

There was at least one other post to control.com about severe problems with GT power output after the addition of a chiller to the axial compressor/turbine inlet. We never heard back from the original poster, but I have to suspect that the inlet differential pressure increased significantly and this cause the unit power output to decrease.

My answer would be that as long as the total static pressure drop of the inlet system didn't increase by more than 1 or 2 inches of water at most with the addition of the chiller components, that there would likely be no need to change any Control Constants. This is because the net effect of adding the chiller is to reduce the turbine inlet temperature, but not below temperatures which might normally be experienced in many parts of the world.

However, if the inlet pressure drop increases, even marginally, it can have an effect on power output, and that should be taken into consideration for the planning. It would be best to have the packager or GE review the data from the chiller supplier if the inlet pressure drop will increase by more than a couple of inches of water; it will probably cost some money, but the money you might save in parts life and additional power output might more than offset the cost of the review and change, if determined to be necessary.

Your chiller supplier(s) should be able to tell you (1) what the total expected pressure drop of the new components will be at rated air flow (at the new temperature!), and, (2) from their experience, any operating parameter changes which have had to be made to the gas turbine as a result of the addition of one of their chillers (that's presuming you are not talking to the packager or GE about chillers).

Please let us know what you find out! Feedback is what makes this forum really work. If you've found this forum searching the Internet or because someone recommended it to you or told you about it, it's because most of the turbine-related posts have some feedback on the usefulness of the discussions and information provided. It's the feedback that really makes this forum useful, and we'd like to improve the feedback rate as much as we can!

Sure sir agree with you,

But as due to plant requirement unable to stop the GT and only therotical brain storming going on.nothing has come out yet.we waiting for oportunity to check the m/c thoroughly.I will definetely come back to you as soon as i will solve the problem.

Thanks.
