Do we need any fire and gas protection for a diesel generator as diesel is not a hazardous fluid?

If required, what type of detectors are best suited?

In my facility, our insurer requires us to install sprinkler systems over the diesel fuel tanks. I'm not aware of any regulatory requirements...
