Running induction motors beyond the rated speed using VSD
Engineering and workplace issues. topic
Posted by Rajesh on 2 December, 2008 - 3:43 am
Is it possible to run the induction motor beyond the rated speed using VSD?

Yes and No.

You can run beyond the synchronous speed (1800 or 3600 RPM is typical in the USA) in most cases.  Torque will start dropping linearly, power will remain constant.  If the motor has a maximum rated RPM beyond the synchronous speed (a VFD rated motor should), then you should not exceed it without contacting the mfg for advice.

Yes.

You may run into some issues, but it is possible.
