Presently we are maintaining ANSI standards for control valve, for installation of field instrumentation API standards and for hazardous location IEC standards. Please tell me whether we are going right way? How we should maintain good instrumentation standards practice regarding material procurement, installation and hazardous location? please give some information about standards?

It depends generally on the following:

1. What is the law of the land. Compliance of which standards are mandatory?

2. Whether insurance bodies demand compliance of specific standards.

3. What are company policy on compliance to international / local standards.

4. Compatibility

5. Preference of detail engineering companies (who built your plant) in complying to specific standards.

You may find many of the standards based on which a plant is built is superceded/obsolete by now. At the same time we need awareness to emerging standards and understand its applicability in existing plant. And this is an ongoing process which needs to track developments, understand its implication and act, wherever necessary.

You may appoint competent authorities (on chargeable basis) to assess your existing position and get recommendations on way forward.

Generic question will only lead to incomplete answers and subsequent long thread of discussion/ interactions. If you have very specific question, the forum may be interested to answer.
