OSIsoft basically says NO WAY MAN but being a real jerk myself I don't believe a simple NO is the final answer.

Has anyone out there done or attempted something similar???

The basic NERC standard to ANY non-routable point to point comm line is acceptable. My initial thought was to use a PPP Serial connection between the PI server and the Wonderware endpoint..

Any thoughts

 

have u tried OPC interface ?

i'm pretty sure there's OPC server for Wonderware.

 

We're quickly coming to that conclusion, I was hoping there might be a solution that would not require us to add more machines and more interfaces.

One of my engineers came up with a Rube Goldburg thing using stripped down network drivers with NWLINK only that will pass DDE but not be layer 3 routable. Any thoughts??

Making this work over a serial link would be a real science project. However, I do not believe NERC requires connections to be non-routable.

In fact, every vendor of whom I am aware is using TCP/IP over Ethernet in power plants. There ARE blocks of IP addresses that are non-routable.

Perhaps all you need to do is VLAN this connection on a non-routable network (e.g. 192.168.n.n)

 

Kepware has a driver for its server that allows you to connect directly to the Wonderware Tag database. You can read from it and write to it. (http://www.kepware.com/Spec_Sheets/Intouch_Client_Driver.html).

You can then connect PI to the server via OPC and get data.
