Provox Migration

I have a project in hand to migrate from Provox DCS system to Deltav. What should be the preferable method:

1- Complete replacement with I/O , files and barriers as well.
2- Controller migration by retaining I/O cards , files and termination

Please advise with pros and cons and difference in expenses in comparision between above two options.

Bekhabar,

The selection of one of the two migration solutions you referred to - or one of the other migration solutions available - depends on a number of factors.

These factors include:
1. Vintage of the PROVOX equipment installed
2. Condition of the PROVOX equipment installed
3. Condition of the wiring and rack room
4. Space available in the rack room
5. Capital funding available at the plant
6. Migration philosophy of the plant staff and management
7. Need to keep the plant running or greatly reduce the downtime during the cut-over

And other factors, depending on the particular situation at the particular site.

In general, if the vintage (age) of the PROVOX equipment is older than 15 to 20 years, then the replacement of the I/O, controllers and consoles tends to be beneficial. If the equipment was installed 10 years ago or less, then the I/O is well supported and can be left in place, thus reducing the costs for the initial migration project. The I/O would need to be replaced at some time in the future, but the economic justification can be easier in two passes instead of one large one. Plus, taking into consideration the time value of money can make the total Net Present Value of two projects less than the one large one.

Many other factors can also come into play. I would be happy to discuss this further with you; you can contact me at [email protected].

there would be 2 options to firstly consider, do you replace the provox dcs during a shutdown period or migrate to a new dcs using a hot cutover technique where the dcs would be cutover online
