We are running a powerhouse with following gensets setup:

1. GE Jenbacher Gas Gensets JGS 420 02Nos.
2. Caterpillar Gas Genset G3516B 01No.
3. GE Jenbacher Gas Gensets JGS 320 01No.

The rated power of these gensets:

1. 1416 Kw. x 2
2. 1110 Kw. x 1
3. 1065 Kw. x 1

When we connect Caterpillar genst in load sharing with Jenbacher gensets the Load on Caterpillar did not get stabled according to load proportions. Caterpillar continuously gains load from the bus and powerfactor also increased continuously.

Dear Khalid,

Tell further detail about Governors:-

a) Governors are set at Droop or Isochronous
b) If droop set then by which percentage.

It is important to understand the problem.

Loading of a particular unit would depend on its droop factor (percentage of droop). A unit with 4 % droop would certainly behave differently from a machine with 6 % droop. What I mean is the speed of loading. When you parallel two dissimilar machines and add a certain load, it is bound to happen that the one with a lower droop takes the load first.

dear khalid,

there are a number of things you will need to take into consideration as ananymous(?)and MOB had pointed out. also more importantly you have to indicate what type of load share modules you are using on each gen set. i'm more familiar with caterpilla gen sets which use woodward LSM in which the Load gain control is as important as the droop (although there are now modules like Easygen, deepsea etc where u can bypass the traditional LSM).

You can contact the nearest CAT dealer to you for help or u can contact www.woodward.com for manuals.

pls give more information on the kind of LSM and/or governor on the Jenbacher sets.

Cheers

Dear Sir,

All Jenbacher genset (03Nos.) & Caterpillar genset (01no.) are set at voltage droop %.

2. All gensets are set Voltage droop % is 4.

Hope will receive reply soon.

Dear Sir,

We want to let you inform that Caterpillar genset G3516B has digital L.S.M of woodward co. While Jenbacher gensets have Signal conditioner for load sharing. Infact Jenbacher gensets takes the signal from Caterpillar genset but did not supplying the signal to caterpillar thats why CAT looks only bus load. Have any solution regarding this?

Dear Mr. Khalid ...

There is a person named Imran Naeem (a woodward certified Engineer) who can solve this problem :):)

Dear Mr. Khalid ...

I would just like to draw your attention to the Current Transformer terminal connection fitted to your AVR for reactive droop compensation. Just check if by interchanging the CT terminal connections the load stablises.
