I'm looking for a some type of music playback to be triggered by a PLC output (24V or relay). I'd like to have the thing play some music while the output is on.

I've been searching around finding nothing. Any ideas short of breaking into a walkman?

This one brings back memories. Had just completed the control system on a large water treatment plant. Alarms were rare, intruding on the silence. Rigged up a 24 V relay to turn mains power on to a tape recorder/radio when an alarm occurred. The system played music through the plants speaker system.

Good fun. Had to disconnect it as the operators would not acknowledge the alarm if it was playing some music they enjoyed. Not acknowledging the first alarm resulted in them not being aware of the second one.
Some fun things to do if you have a great stable control system like the Infi 90.

 

Thanks for the story. I think I'll be doing something similar, rigging up a tape recorder. This is a home project to feed my cats, so they probably won't complain about the choice of music

I have seen in some trucks a little back box to go 24vdc to 12vdc then all you need is a standard car stereo as your music player. This should work like turning on your ignition and stereo goes to its last settings from shut down.
