grid frequency

Grid frequency is the frequency of the municipal power source. It is not calculated. It is set by convention. In the US it is 60 Hz. In some other countries it is 50 Hz.

"It is set by convention.". I would like to correct it like this,

Generator Frequency, f = (P*N)/120,
where P = No.of Poles in generator,
N = Speed of generator.

Now there are many no of generators synchronized in the network (i.e. grid) & there is an equilibrium as Energy generated= Energy Consumed, ignoring losses in the network.

Thus the whole grid itself acts as a generator and the resultant frequency is termed as Grid Frequency. Practically it is the reading of Frequency meter shown at Supplier (Utility) point at consumer premises. (Usually an HV feeder in Industry)
