SLC 5/05 communications

This is undoubtedly a simple question, but I’ve noticed recently on a SLC 5/05 that the communication path, which is the IP address that is used to go online, is different than the IP address in the channel configuration Channel 1 - System tab. Does it have something to do with the channel not being write-protected?
