4-20mA to ModBus TCP

Just a quick web search revealed this one:

Advantech ADAM-6017

I downloaded the datasheet and they have 0-20mA and 4-20mA input modes as well as voltage input modes.

You can also check Moxa, I recall they have some small IO modules for ModbusTCP.

If your devices are all in one spot (i.e. wired back to a central electrical panel e.g.) you can use a slice IO setup with a Modbus TCP bus coupler. Wago, Beckhoff, Moxa, and B&R have slice IO modules that let you mix and match IO in 4/6/8/12 channel chunks usually. This makes for a very expandable and flexible system.

If all you want is a remote drop somewhere on the plant floor for a handful of IO the ADAM (or something similar) is probably your first choice.

Try the Advantech 6000 series, Acromag, or really just about any industrial I/O manufacturer. Modbus/TCP is very widely supported. It's mainly a matter of picking out the size, packaging, cost, etc. that you need. Some are individual modules, while others are racks.

The modbus.org web site has a list of vendors, but there are also lots of companies that aren't members who also sell good hardware.

In reply to Automationtechie:

I've not used the ADAM-6017, but it does say on the advantech web page that it supports ethernet communications and Modbus/TCP (as well as http for monitoring and setup).

The Advantech 4000 series are Modbus/RTU over RS-485, while the 6000 series are Modbus/TCP over Ethernet. Both also support Advantech's own ASCII UDP protocol, which is documented in their manuals.

I think they can help you

i once bought modbus for my boss from them but i don't remember if it was 4-20mA to ModBus TCP just check their offer or call them, they'll help for sure
