What is a 'Addressable Point type smoke detector'?
Where it is used? What are available makes?

It is so that when activated, there is a means of identifying which detector set off the alarm. (Each detector is assigned a unique number [address].)

Any of the major manufacturers will have these.

Addressable type of smoke detector will tell you the exact location of the alarm rather than a zone of alarm in case of conventional type of detectors. MIRCOM group, Canada is one of the many manufacturer.

As Tom Chubb said, "Each detector is assigned a unique number [address]" for addressable type smoke detector. You need a fire alarm control panel (FACP). The FACP polls the detector addresses continuously. When a device is "activated", the device reports to the FACP.

You need to program the FACP with the room number or location of the addressable type smoke detector so you can locate the detector.

A conventional type smoke detector is a discrete device wired on a simple circuit with the other conventional type smoke detectors. When the device is "activated", the FACP sees the whole string of devices. You cannot put an addressable type smoke detector on the FACP for conventional type smoke detector.
