Data Gathering from SLC5/03

Dear All,

I need to collect data from SLC5/03 and archive in OSI-PI historian. My SLC5/03 has DL-485 and RS-232 ports. I can not use RS-232 as it may be required for programming in future. For DL-485, I need to have PKTX card in a PC having RS-Linx etc. This solution is too expensive for me. I want to convert DH-485 to any standard protocol (RS-485, RS-232, Modbus) and then use OPC server for data gathering.

Please suggest the methodology that can be used.

Thanks

There are no cheap options for you. If you really need the data, you are going to have to bite the bullet and spend the money. Unless PI has direct drivers, you are going to have to buy RSLinx anyway.

AB has a USB to DH485 convertor available that is probably a better option and less expensive than a PKTX card.

There is another option for you to consider.

You could use a feature of our Omnii-Comm module
http://www.miille.com/din266-p00.pdf that provides protocol independent access to the SLC data that will also permit a programming station or any other DF-1 device simultaneous access to the PLC. We call this feature a "pass-thru" function and it can permit multiple DF-1 devices to connect with a single serial port on the PLC.

You do not identify the protocol limitations of your OSI-PI historian but the Omnii-Comm supports many different protocols and you can see a list here http://www.miille.com/curproto.htm

You can contact me off list if you have any questions.
