I am in a Lineman apprenticeship and I am confused about the wild leg in a 120/240 volt three phase three wire delta. I need to know if the 208 is used for the "motor start up" and if so how does that work? I understand that the motor will run off of the phase to phase 240 but how does the 208 start the motor and after the motor is started is there a switch that opens the neutral? I may never need to know this stuff and I may be digging to deep but I am curious. If some one could help me I would really appreciate it.
