Adding a Web Interface

Hello,

I have the task of modifying a hot table to be controlled remotely. There are a handful of users who would all like to be able to turn the machine on and off as well as vary the setpoint from a web interface. Currently, the machine uses an integrated heater controller unit, the Chromalox 2104-RO110. From what I have already read, it seems like a PLC with an integrated web server would be the simplest and most economical solution, but I have never had a project like this before (including programming a PLC or web page). Where do you guys recommend I start? Any good resources out there for an infant PLC programmer?

Thank you for any help!

Instead of a PLC, which could work but would probably require a fair amount of programming, check out the Newport iSeries temperature controllers with built in Ethernet.  It may even be close to a drop in replacement for the Chromalox.

Temperature control is not one of a PLC's strengths. I would use a Red Lion Modular Controller. It has a web server built-in that allows you to program a web page by dragging and dropping objects, filling in parameters, etc. No knowledge of a programming language (HTML, etc.) needed.

Select a PID module for it and the control loop is built in for you.

Hi Matt,

WISE-5800 which has website interface feature may help you to get the web interface together with the temperature modules provided by ICP DAS-USA.

You can go to the link to get the concept of this solution. <b>http://www.icpdas-usa.com/wise_5800.html</b>

Also you may add a simple basic SCADA which can do web publishing which can also help you to add a web interface. <b>Free download the trial: http://www.icpdas-usa.com/documents/king/kingview6.53_EN.zip</b>

Hi,

I'm going to step out of my usual role here and recommend the controllers made by my former employer, Control Technology Corporation - <b>www.ctc-control.com</b>.

They make controllers with web interfaces, in fact they were one of the first. And Quickstep is a very easy language to program in. Check them out.
