MODBUS CONTROLL OF MULTIPLE SLIT SYSTEM AIRCONDITIONERS

Essentially we want to be able to have two way communication between our micro based room controllers and an AC unit. It would also be an advantage (but not essential) if we could control more than one AC unit from a single controller.

Our room controllers are Linux based and have various hardware interfaces such as USB, RS232, RS485. Others such as CAN are possible but not currently implemented. All use TCP/IP to communicate with an automation and environment server.

As with most ‘things’ there is usually more than one solution and I suggest this may be the case here.

Suggest we approach this two ways.;

1. Off-the-shelf…. What do the manufacturers have available for two way communications with one or more AC units?
a. MODBUS / RS485 / RS232
i. 2 wire
ii. 4 wire
iii. TCP/IP
b. CAN bus
c. BAC Net
d. LON Works

2. Custom .. What electrical interfaces are available on the AC unit for two way communications?
a. Specification of interface
b. Functions / commands available

In both cases communication is initiated from our controller (master), and requests are sent to the AC unit
