Compressors Flow Transmitter
Continuous process industries, DCS questions. topic

Hello ,

I have some question regarding the selection criteria of flow transmitter type used in Centrifugal Compressors, specially the DP type. I have found some quick charts that aids in selection but I'd like to have some engineering reference for the below points.

1) When to Select DP Type?

2) Can we consider the Range of the Transmitter is equal to the Compressor Map maximum flow capacity in addition to some safety margin?

3) Accuracy of the DP Type

4) Turn-down Ratio

5) Optimum Position for the element on the pipe, Does it require some straightness before and after the the element position?

6) Smart Type Transmitter, Does it configured with Pressure & Temperature Compensation?

7) Is it suitable to use Smart Type Transmitters in Compressor Application, as I know that slow response can be restriction in using smart type transmitter?

8) If we assume that the Transmitter is selected and ready to send the signal to the controller, is it OK to use the flow engineering units (e.g M3/HR) instead of using the DP engineering units (e.g mmH2O)?

Many Thanks
