Power Factor Correction Panel

We have 25 Kva of sanctioned load in our office building. We don't have much of inductive load (negligible).

The power factor is running as 0.75 in our monthly electricity bills for which we have to pay the penalties every month.

We are trying to purchase a power factor correction panel to improve the power factor.

My question is that how should we decide the Kvar required to manage a maximum possible running load of 25 KVA. What is the formula / concept?

please guide.

Sensorless… your statement that kVAr is “negligible” is in error. The figures you cite yield kW and kVAr values of 18.75 and 16.5, respectively!

To calculate the PF correction required the utility’s PF penalty value must be known!

Dears,

First of all which is your ideal power factor selected 85%, 90% and then you can calculate the KVAR of the PF correction panel by this equation:

PF = P (Active power in KW)/S (Apparent power in KVA)
P = PF * S = ...KW
Q = √(S^2+P^2 )→ Q =.....KVAR.
