I wanted to know what are the steps and documentation involved in any control system project.

Actually, I work in a process industry, my basic goal is to know if I am asked to automate a particular small system, what are the documents and steps involved in the project that are related to control system engineer.

Your wanting to learn more about Control Systems is commendable. I hope that you will continue to progress in your desires.

Control System projects (large or small) all have various ways that the programs, HMIs and documentation are handled. Given that you are already involved in a Process Industry, I would suggest that you approach the Control Systems Engineers already involved in your processes.

Ask questions of them. Learn from them. As you gain a greater understanding of the processes, the hardware used, the programming needed and the documentation involved, you will find that your questions will become much more focused.
