Over excitation after synchronizing

Under automatic control and when the synchronized with the line is done the generator immediately takes from the line +40 Mvars. What is the reason and what I can do to reduce automatically the Mvars in this moment?

Are you saying that if you synchronize in Manual mode there is no excess VAr flow?

What happens when you synchronize in Manual, then transfer to Auto?

Many times there is a circuit or logic that increases the excitation slightly after generator breaker closure to ensure there is not a negative (leading VAr flow). Are you sure this circuit or logic is working properly?

What kind of exciter/AVR is in use at your site?
