Recently we had a problem while reducing the load of a synchronous motor used with compressor. Initially this motor was not having reverse power protection, but while upgrading the relay and breaker for the compressor motor we included reverse power protection. During changeover of load from one compressor to another, the load was being reduced gradually finally when the load was made to zero percent. After 3 sec of no-load running the motor tripped on reverse power flow. After upgradation of relay we did solo-run test for 4 hrs and finally it was coupled and started successfully. It was kept running for almost 1 month.
