Using a Linear Actuator

I want to use a 12v linear actuator to raise and lower my router which is mounted in my router table. I intend to use an 12v power supply.

I was going to wire it with a dpdt 6 connector switch.

I thought I might use a pot between the power supply and the switch to control the movement of the rod more precisely. I don't know how to size the pot. The only electric info I have on the actuator is that it's 12 v.

Thanks

A linear actuator may not have a positioning device. What I mean is it will just go forward or back. You need a position feedback device to stop it at a set spot.
