Gravity Flow Meters

I need to measure the flow of a 12" pipe with process water in excess of 2,000 gpm that I can't guarantee is full. I prefer open meters as there are small solids in the pipe that could build up. I found a Krohne unit that is ridiculous on the expensive side.

please, you can try clamp on ultrasonic flow meter which is very cheap
with totalizer with 8 digital display.

Mr Miller

I would suggest contacting Cape Instrument Services, they are based down here in Cape Town, Paarden Eiland. Speak with a Mr Bill Mitchel, he is very clued up on the ultra-sonic flow meters that they stock (well priced).

He will be able to answer your questions with regards to the half full pipes.

He has a ultra-sonic that is based on a magnet and literally just sticks to the pipe. If I recall these sensors are around R6k.

These sensors have a 4-20mA out which could be connected to product such as the GSM Commander.

This will allow you to receive a daily/Monthly/Weekly SMS with the usage and/or on request.
You can also have the values logged to an cloud platform.

The GSM Commander is manufactured in Cape Town and is used in this sort of application all the time.

Cape Instrument Services is an authorized dealer of the GSM Commander as well.

You can do some other very interesting things with the product as well (since it is a mini PLC).

Hope this helps.
