We have a frame 9E gas turbine installed at our plant. We can remove system Atomizing Air in gas turbine PG9171.NON DLN. Is the current condition normal with the machine running?

What do you mean by:

Yes; if you're not ever going to burn liquid fuel again, the atomizing air system can be removed. But, it requires new fuel nozzle components to do it properly (the atomizing air tip has to be replaced with a BLANK tip to prevent possible backflow of hot combustion gases into the nozzle/piping). Some people have just put flange blinds on the AA flanges of the fuel nozzles, and this has worked for some people, but not for others.

There are some other piping system modifications which have to be made to the AA piping, and the Cooling Water System (there should be an AA Pre-Cooler which uses Cooling water). And, there is usually a liquid fuel purge system which can be removed, as well, if the machine is dual fuel (gas/liquid).

 

Before posting here, this question was asked to me privately. After some explanation, it appears that he wants to do this with the machine running and only put a blank in the CPD feed line to the AA system! Obviously I said NO but it appears that he now wants a second opinion?
