Frequency to 4-20mA converter

Hello Guys,

A fellow engineer wants me to condition a frequency pulse signal from a turbine flowmeter to a calibrated 4-20mA and 0-20mA signal. He has also hinted that he wants me to use a PIC microprocessor. I have limited experience in this field, which is why I was given the task.

I was thinking, I could make a frequency counter which gives a voltage output and then convert it to the 4-20mA signal. Are there any other possible ways to do this?

The 4-20mA signal is going into a Siemens PLC and then HMI, but I can do that as that's what i do day-to-day, any help would be great.

Manufacturers of Turbine Flowmeters already produce signal conditioning for converting their signals to 4-20 mA outputs (and others).

Contact the manufacturer.

There are also signal conditioners that will convert frequency to analog from several companies including Red Lion.
