Good morning:

We have a steam turbine with capacity of 32.4 WM (LP, MP) extracted. since 2 month there are a high vibration on the first bearing 9.6 mm/s and the specialist was called and it advise to maintain it about 20 MW which now normally running at load of 25 MW as per our manager. Two days back, our operation staff the reduce the outlet temperature for the lube oil from 48.5c0 about 2 degree (by increasing the sea water flow and as per manual outlet temperature should be not less than 48.5) and the load raised up to 27 MW with vibration not more than 5.5 mm/s. But the brought back as they afraid from something serious may happen. My Q is as following:

1- What has been done is correct? If yes, what the viscosity of the lube oil which be increased as temperature decrease? There will be no effect on the bearing side

2- Is there is any close relation between the temperature of the lube oil so that bearing temperature and the vibration of the bearing?
