We have a RTU supports both IEC 101 & 104. Our master supports only 101. Is it possible to transfer Data using Leased line or VSAT (TCP/IP network communication technology) in 101 protocol to the Master without using any protocol converters or additional hardwares?

it's not possible. At the end the protocols are quite similar or better the information is the same but IEC 104 is developed to be executed on TCP/IP and IEC 101 on serial communication. You can find more details IEC standard documentation. I think that you will need a protocol converter. What we do typically is use ABB PGP or ABB S+ Operation as gateway from one protocol to another.

 

Thanks for the reply.We do use some of the protocol converters. Our intention is to reduce the number of hardwares at Control centre end.
